 Supporting Veterans Living with Dementia

A specialist network of support has been created for Veterans living with Dementia and their carers/families. The impact of this condition affects both the individual with Dementia and their families and friends.

A small team of Dementia Trained Volunteers is available to provide practical health and support, along with advice services to direct individuals to local resources.

The founder works full time with people living with Dementia and understands the effects on family life as well.

The services being developed include:

  • Support and Friendship Groups for Veterans and their families

  • Individual support networks for times of need

  • Creation of networks for carers/families of someone living with dementia

  • Ensuring no one is without a support link

Initially, a Dementia Support Group was established in Hampshire as a trial, which has garnered interest. There is a plan to expand both a physical presence in the community and an online presence.

To achieve this, funds and awareness of the available services need to be raised to reach out to the wider community of Veterans.
